ROWLAND HEIGHTS, Calif. (KABC) -- At least six people were arrested and one child was taken into protective custody following pot busts at two homes in Rowland Heights.
The busts took place on the 1200 block of Linden Grove Avenue and on the 18600 block of La Guardia Street Tuesday night.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department did not release the specific amount of marijuana seized, only saying it was more than allowed under California's medicinal marijuana laws.
Because the case is still open, detectives said this could be a small grow operation or part of a larger crime ring. They say they don't want to jeopardize tracking down anyone else who might be involved by releasing too many details.
The debate over cannabis has been a contentious one. The topic of legalizing marijuana is expected to be on the ballot as soon as 2016.
Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom is heading up the Blue Ribbon Commission on Marijuana hoping to discuss the matter in more detail - including reducing children's access to the drug and tightly regulating the drug's growth and sales.
Six different ballot measures to legalize marijuana have been submitted to the California secretary of state. Law enforcement officials argue that legalizing pot would not halt illegal grows and would, at the least, put more DUI drivers on the road.
