Family of man fatally shot by LAPD in Venice speaks out after $4M settlement

VENICE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The family of Brendon Glenn, who was shot and killed by a Los Angeles police officer in Venice in 2015, was speaking out for the first time since reaching a settlement with the city.

Brendon Glenn was just 29 years old when he was shot and killed by LAPD Officer Clifford Proctor.

Glenn was hit twice in the back and those two bullets added up to a $4 million settlement by the city.

"If Officer Proctor only knew Brendon, he never would have killed him. He would have loved him too, just like everybody else did," cried mother Sheryn Camprone.

Camprone, her daughter and an attorney were in court on Friday for a hearing concerning the settlement with the city.

Glenn was killed in May 2015 outside a Venice night club during a scuffle with police.

Proctor said he fired because he thought Glenn was reaching for another LAPD officer's gun, but surveillance video showed that wasn't the case.

The L.A. Police Commission unanimously deemed Proctor out of policy and last January, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck urged prosecutors to file charges against Proctor. That was nearly a year ago, but there are still no charges.

"We call on accountability for the prosecution of the officer who shot and killed their son and brother," said James Desimone, Glenn's family attorney. "And we call on accountability for better training of these officers."

A spokesperson for L.A. County District Attorney Jackie Lacey said the case was still under review by the Justice System Integrity Division.

Meantime, the $4 million settlement will be split between Camprone and Glenn's 4-year old son, Avery, who lives with his mother in upstate New York.

Camprone asked, "What do you say to a little boy who misses his daddy and wants to know how long it takes God to put him back together again so he can come back home...?"
