LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Thousands of people were affected by weather-related power outages throughout the Los Angeles area Friday night due to the strong heat, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
About 4,500 customers were without power in the Westwood and West Los Angeles area due to circuits overloading with heat. The outage occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Over 3,500 customers in the area had their power restored around 10 p.m.
Over 2,000 people experienced an outage around 7 p.m. in Lawndale due to equipment problems.
DWP officials were also working on outages in Santa Monica and Brentwood.
A vault fire sparked in Marina del Rey near Mindanao Way and the 90 Freeway around 9 p.m. also due to the heat.
Earlier in the day, Diamond Bar underwent a power outage that began around 2 p.m. and was expected to be restored around 9 p.m. Over 2,000 customers were affected.
