HOLLYWOOD (KABC) -- Crews were expected to work through the night after the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Highland Avenue was closed due to a broken water main flooding the streets Monday afternoon.
Water started flooding the intersection around 4 p.m.
According to the LADWP, there was damage to the street. A 12-inch broken pipe underneath Santa Monica Blvd. was the source of the water.
The pipe dates back to 1920. About 10,000 gallons of water were lost, DWP crews said.
Department of Water and Power crews took at least two hours to close the main. Work to repair the damage was expected to cause closure of the intersection until early Tuesday.
Metro bus lines were affected.
A department spokesman promised the intersection would be reopened by Tuesday's rush hour. One nearby business was closed because of the lack of water.
The DWP hopes to have the road back open for the Tuesday morning commute.
