SEAL BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- The Seal Beach City Council on Monday voted unanimously to begin trapping coyotes that have been preying on pets.

A long line of people made passionate pleas for the city to take action after dozens of pets have been killed by the wild animals in recent weeks.

The council voted 4-0 to approve two two-week trapping sessions starting next week, according to the Orange County Register. The results are expected to be reviewed at the Oct. 13 meeting.

The trapping plan includes euthanizing the coyotes. The council also voted to clean up overgrown areas where coyotes take shelter, require that trash cans be covered, and fine people for leaving pet food out.
