LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- "I and Love and You," a Colorado-based pet food company, donated 100,000 meals to help out the four-legged friends who were displaced by Southern California wildfires.
Some of those dogs were given up by their owners - either permanently or temporarily - because they cannot return to their homes. That influx of dogs has caused a severe strain on animal shelters.
Other dogs are still with their owners at a camp at the Ventura County Fairgrounds.
Around half of the donated meal shipment will be distributed by Shelter Hope Pet Shop in Thousand Oaks.
"There are still people, so many families, that are displaced, that can't go back to their homes because of the smoke damage. They survived it, their animals survived it - but they have nowhere to go," said Kim Sill, founder of the pet shop.
Camp Bow Wow in Agoura Hills is also offering free boarding for displaced dogs.
