WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) -- An armed man was taken into custody Friday morning after barricading himself inside a Whittier home for almost seven hours Thursday.

The standoff began around 8:45 p.m. Thursday on the 9200 block of Laurel Avenue.

Deputies responded to the home regarding a family disturbance. They saw 23-year-old Adam William Samarin brandish a weapon and retreat inside the home.

Samarin surrendered at 3:10 a.m. after chemical agents were introduced inside the home, Deputy Graciela Medrano said.

Samarin was taken into custody and treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. He was expected to be booked at the Norwalk sheriff's station, Medrano said. Charges are pending.
