Jimmy Greer, Dalco Turner, John Ratcliff and Jennifer Ratcliff made the big discovery, shattering the state record for heaviest gator. The gator was pulled from the backwaters of the Mississippi River near Port Gibson on Sunday.
Not only is it the heaviest gator on record, it also tied for the longest alligator at 13 feet and 6.5 inches.
Just last week, Beth Trammell of Madison took the title for Mississippi's heaviest alligator with her 723.5-pound catch. Trammel's catch was bested just an hour later when Dustin Bockman caught a massive 727-pound beast.
Then came the latest catch. The hunting team called the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks' Alligator Program coordinator so the animal could be lifted and weighed.
