Airport officials said 140 flights were canceled on Sunday and 100 more were canceled Monday morning. Others were delayed. For many passengers, that meant spending the night at O'Hare. The Saymari family is traveling from Louisville to Baghdad. They hope to make an American Airlines flight Monday night. "I'm really upset because really I don't know when I'm going to leave here. The Saymaris said they were unable to get a hotel voucher. So they're waiting at O'Hare.
Nathaniel Rowtown experienced one delay after another during Sunday's storm, but made a flight Monday morning.
"Last night the lines for customer service, you couldn't see the end of them. And they were handing out pieces of paper saying call this number. You call the number and all circuits busy. It was just a nightmare," Nathaniel Rowton, passenger, said.
He'll be late to work.
"I work in orthopedics and I was actually supposed to be scrubbed in on a case at 9 o'clock this morning. I am not going to make it," Rownton said.
Travelers who live in Chicago are rescheduling their flights.
"It's a drag being here because we paid money to go to Mexico," Ricky Ayla said. His visit to his grandmother will have to wait a day.
O'Hare officials said they expect flights to be back on schedule by Monday evening. However, travelers should continue to call ahead.
At Midway, only about a dozen flights were canceled Monday morning.
