A driver wanted for speeding crashed a Lamborghini SUV on a street in Tarzana after fleeing from California Highway Patrol officers, authorities said.

TARZANA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A driver wanted for speeding crashed a Lamborghini SUV on a street in Tarzana after fleeing from California Highway Patrol officers, authorities said. The trapped suspect was rescued after the vehicle erupted in flames.

The crash occurred shortly before 4 a.m. in the residential 5600 block of North Tampa Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The Lamborghini overturned onto its roof after hitting several parked cars and a tree, an LAPD spokesperson said.

Officers and good Samaritans extricated the driver, who was trapped inside the burning SUV, police said. The suspect was transported to a hospital with unknown injuries and listed in stable condition.

Video from the scene showed a policeman using a fire extinguisher to douse the fire, which was later fully extinguished by firefighters.

Earlier, around 3:30 a.m., CHP officers were in pursuit of a black Lamborghini SUV on the northbound 101 Freeway near Barham Boulevard, a Highway Patrol spokesperson told ABC7. Shortly afterward, the officers lost sight of the vehicle and called off the chase, according to the CHP.

The agency was informed about 20 minutes later that the same Lamborghini had crashed near the intersection of Tampa Avenue and Ventura Boulevard.

The pursuit and crash are each being investigated by the CHP and LAPD, respectively.
