UNDATED At the center of it all is Bay City's GM Powertrain facility.
The Detroit News reports that GM has plans to upgrade five factories, totaling
an investment of $890 million and 1,600 jobs. The plants are in Ontario, New
York, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan.
According to the Detroit News article, The Bay City plant is expected to receive
$32 million of the investment, which will be tied to the production of GM's next
generation engine for its full-size pickups.
Local officials will only say that the announcement is very positive and
represents a long-term production commitment by the automaker.
In February, GM announced an investment worth over $10 million, tied to production on similar engines for the new Chevy Volt, which is an extended-range electric car.
The official announcement for the new investment will be made Tuesday morning.
