Microsoft to hold conference at L.A. in 2011

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES Los Angeles Mayor /*Antonio Villaraigosa*/ welcomed the news, saying the technology conference will generate about $45 million in spending for the area. The mayor's office said the conference will be one of the biggest ever at the /*Los Angeles Convention Center*/.

"Hosting this banner event for the global technology community is a major win for Los Angeles and an important boost for our local economy," Villaraigosa said.

The event is expected to draw up to 15,000 people to the downtown area.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said Los Angeles is a dynamic, exciting city that inspires creativity and innovation.

"It's an ideal setting for our global community of 15,000 partners from 120 countries to share their ideas and energy for technology and business opportunities in the years ahead," he said.

The conference will be held July 10 -14, 2011.
