The Los Angeles Archdiocese is backing off its plan to add 20 days to the school year for elementary students.

Just last week, Cardinal Roger Mahony said that the archdiocese would become the first school system in the state to have a 200-day academic year in hopes of boosting student performance.

Some parents said the change would impact family schedules.

Now the archdiocese says it will work with each of its 210 schools on the length of the school year.
