Chapman University is offering identity protection service to thousands of students after their personal data was briefly left unprotected.

A student found the information in an unsecured computer folder.

It included names, social security numbers and financial aid information on close to 13,000 people.

Chapman has contacted all of the students listed in the document.

The school says there is no sign that any of the information was used improperly.
