Galveston's Flagship Hotel demolition underway

GALVESTON, TX The Galveston Island landmark has been on 25th Street and Seawall for 45 years. Last week engineers started to prep the building for today's demolition. They wanted to make sure it wouldn't collapse into the water.

Businessman Tillman Fertitta bought the property and plans to build an amusement park. Construction will start on the Pleasure Pier project as soon as the demolition is complete.

Flagship Hotel was built in 1965. Back in the 1940s, there was a Pleasure Pier in that location, so the location is returning to its roots.
