April 5, 2011 12:00:00 AM PDT
The Orange County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an ordinance Tuesday that would create child safety zones at county recreational areas.

The ordinance, which goes into effect in 30 days, aims to protect kids from registered sex offenders.

Under the ordinance, it would be a misdemeanor for sex offenders to enter recreational areas where kids play, including public parks and campgrounds.

Violators would face up to six months in jail and a $500 fine.
