A&P sells 25 Superfresh stores

MONTVALE, N.J. - April 14, 2011

The company, which is under bankruptcy protection, said Wednesday it's seeking approval of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York to sell 25 Superfresh stores in Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia.

If approved, the company expects the sale to be complete by mid-June.

A&P said those locations are outside its core markets. A&P encouraged customers to continue shopping at the stores during the marketing and sales process.

The company will continue to operate stores in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, the coastal area of Delaware and in Ocean City, Md.

A&P operates 395 stores in eight states under the A&P, Waldbaum's, Pathmark, Best Cellars, The Food Emporium, Superfresh and Food Basics banners.
