Police chief says he'll be on the job tomorrow

SAGINAW ABC 12 News reported this morning that City Manager Darnell Earley appointed an acting police chief because Cliff has been ill and off work for a couple of weeks.

But it appears things have changed.

Just a few hours after that e-mail was sent out, Cliff contacted city officials and said he would be back to work Wednesday.

Cliff has been off work since April 22 due to an undisclosed medical condition. Without knowing exactly when Cliff would return, City Manager Darnell Earley this morning announced the appointment of Lt. Tamie Luty as acting police chief.

Luty sued the city and Chief Cliff in a gender discrimination case in 2007, but a federal jury ruled against her.

She has remained with the police department for more than 20 years.

This morning, Cliff called Public Safety Director Phillip Ludos to announce that he would be back on the job Wednesday.
