The /*National Weather Service*/ says Oxnard has met its TsunamiReady Program criteria for disaster planning.
More than 80 coastal communities nationwide have become "/*tsunami*/ ready" since 2004.
Nine of them are in the Los Angeles area.
To be given the "tsunami ready" designation, a community must have a 24-hour center for receiving Weather Service warnings and activating local warning systems.
It must have multiple methods for warning the public.
It must promote readiness instruction.
And it must develop a formal tsunami plan that includes emergency exercises.
