The teen was shot Wednesday at about 12:45 p.m. on the 6400 block of Vermont Avenue. The teen was standing in front of the liquor store, according to police, when a woman approached and opened fire.
Witnesses say the female suspect ran down the street and jumped into a van.
Police are trying to figure out what prompted the shooting. Police said the shooting may have been gang-related.
"Currently it's being investigated as a gang-related shooting. The victim was transported to a local hospital listed in critical condition pending surgery," said LAPD Sgt. Rick Arteaga.
Police think the suspect had been a customer inside the store before the shooting.
The suspect remains at large. Witnesses described her as heavyset and wearing a pink sweater.
