Tonja Millet of Texas says she used Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion 30 Day Straightening Kit. But instead of straightening her hair, Millet said the product melted her hair.
Millet and 13 other women are now suing Unilever, the maker of Suave.
Unilever says when it began hearing consumer complaints, it launched a voluntary recall in May. But Millet said she complained in February.
"They didn't take it off the market for months, even after they knew there were hundreds, possibly thousands of women affected the way I was or even far worse," she said.
The lawyer representing the women says they experienced hair loss, breakage, discoloration and burning of the scalp.
The product is no longer on store shelves.
