The bankruptcy filing deadline for the city of San Bernardino was Friday after the city filed for bankruptcy protection back in August.
The city originally faced a $46 million budget shortfall.
The city council voted earlier this week to pass an austerity plan.
The plan would cut more than $26 million in spending, freeze debt payments and police department vacancies, and slash fire department overtime.
The next hearing is scheduled for Dec. 21. City officials will then explain how the city plans to pay into the CALPERS retirement fund.
