Valet companies must have permits in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES

Beginning Saturday, the Los Angeles Police Commission, which oversees the valet permit program, will enforce the new ordinance.

It was unanimously approved last year by the City Council. The permits are intended to regulate on- street valet services and help nearby residents by stopping valets from parking cars in neighborhoods and at public meters.

For customers, it provides more protection from theft and damage as companies must carry liability insurance and they have to run criminal background checks on all valets.
