4.6-magnitude earthquake strikes near Big Bear Lake area

BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. (KABC) -- A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Big Bear Lake on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. No damages or injuries were reported.

The quake hit 6 miles northwest of the lake resort at 9:59 a.m. It initially registered as a magnitude 4.8. That quake was followed by a 3.4 temblor that hit at 10 a.m.

Snowplows were dispatched to remove numerous rock slides that closed State Route 18 between Big Bear Dam and Snow Valley. At least six vehicles were stranded on the road, including an SUV and three motorcyclists, CHP officers said.

Eyewitness News viewers reported feeling the shaking in Fullerton, Victorville, San Bernardino, Riverside and Apple Valley.
