COMPTON, Calif. (KABC) -- An arson suspect was taken into custody Tuesday morning following a fire at a home that was possibly being used as a drug lab in Compton, officials said.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, a deputy doing a service call around 3:15 a.m. noticed a home on fire near Tajauta Avenue and 137th Street.
As the deputy drove toward the home, the deputy noticed a van speeding away and a pursuit ensued. During the chase, a suspect jumped from the van and fled on foot.
The suspect was eventually caught, but the van and the driver got away. Authorities say the suspect suffered from severe burns and was taken to a local hospital.
Compton firefighters arriving at the home smelled what they believed to be PCP, so hazmat crews were called to the scene. Investigators have not said what they found inside the home.
