La Puente man killed in crash after car slams into power pole

LA PUENTE, Calif. -- An investigation is underway into a fatal car wreck in La Puente, where a vehicle swerved off the road and slammed into a power pole.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Temple and Meeker avenues.

The passenger in the car, identified as 20-year-old La Puente resident Juan Rivas, died at the scene, according to Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter. The driver, who was not identified, was taken to an area hospital in unknown condition.

Investigators said speed was likely a factor in the crash.
