Police arrest woman after her report of alleged assault prompts SWAT response in downtown LA

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- After a police standoff with a purported domestic violence suspect was "resolved without incident" Sunday morning in downtown Los Angeles, the woman who reported the alleged assault was arrested, officials said.

The episode began about 4:45 a.m. when a woman tried to remove her belongings from a location in the 800 block of Olive Street, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The woman contacted authorities and said her boyfriend threatened her with a gun, according to the LAPD. She was unharmed.

Officers responded to the scene and a barricade situation ensued. A SWAT team was summoned about 9 a.m. before police made entry into the location.

During the incident, authorities said the domestic violence suspect was armed with an AK-47 assault rifle.

Olive Street was closed between 8th and 9th streets as the LAPD established a mobile command center in an adjacent parking lot. Armored vehicles and fire department ladder trucks were also parked on the street.

Shortly after noon, police announced that the situation had ended without the suspect being located. Officers recovered several weapons at the scene, an LAPD spokesperson said.

Police confirmed the woman was taken into custody but declined to immediately provide additional details of her arrest.

Authorities did say they found several weapons inside the residence.
