A 29-year-old man accused of shooting at Los Angeles police officers manning the front desk of the Mid-City station died Thursday, police said.
Daniel Yealu, of Los Angeles, died at about 2 a.m. He was identified as the alleged gunman who entered the LAPD Wilshire Division and West Traffic Division offices in the 4800 block of Venice Boulevard on the night of April 7 and shot at two officers.
The officers returned fire, and Yealu was taken to the hospital in critical condition. One of the officers was hit seven times and also taken to the hospital, but was later released.
Yealu had applied earlier to attend the LAPD academy, but was turned down, LAPD Cmdr. Andy Smith has previously said.
