LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- In the new Coen brothers comedy "Hail, Caesar!" Josh Brolin takes a step back in time to play a tough movie executive whose job is to keep all the studio's dirty little secrets.

"Hopefully a new generation - because it's a fun movie, because it's an accessible movie, per se - is you can hopefully become interested in the history of film and want to see films like the old Esther Williams' films or these old westerns, but singing westerns," he said.

"Hail, Caesar!" gives viewers a little insight into what Tinseltown was like about 60 years ago, and it adds a little fun to it as well.

"I saw it for the first time and I can say, at least somewhat objectively...it was like 'Wow, I'm so happy to be involved in a movie that's this good,'" he said.

The movie is rated PG-13 and hits theaters Friday.
