Man cheats carpool lane with 'Most Interesting Man in the World'

A Washington man was caught violating the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane with a most interesting fake person on in his passenger seat.

A Washington State Patrol trooper pulled over the driver on March 23 on Intestate 5, near the City of Fife, after spotting a cardboard cut-out of actor Jonathan Goldsmith, famously known as "The Most Interesting Man in the World" from the Dos Equis beer commercials.

"He couldn't have used a more recognizable face," State Patrol Officer and Public Information Officer Guy Gill told ABC News. "The trooper and the driver had a good laugh about it but he was cited anyway... Our trooper gave him a $124 ticket for violating HOV lane laws," said Gill.

Posting the photo of the driver with his faux companion, Gill quipped, "I don't always violate the HOV lane law...but when I do, I get a $124 ticket!"

Gill said that in his 12 years of service with the state patrol, he's seen many bizarre attempts by HOV violators to fool officers into believing there's a second person in the vehicle.

"We've seen people use duffel bags, mannequin heads...but we've given this guy an A for creativity," said Gill.
