Dodgers acquire reliever Connor Brogdon from Phillies

CHICAGO -- The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired righty reliever Connor Brogdon from the Philadelphia Phillies for lefty minor league pitcher Benony Robles, the teams announced Saturday.

Brogdon, 29, was designated for assignment this week after appearing in three games for Philadelphia. Beginning his fifth season with the Phillies, he allowed six runs over two innings.

Robles, 23, went 4-2 with a 3.86 ERA in 33 games for High-A Great Lakes last season. In five minor league campaigns, he was a combined 13-16 with a 4.67 ERA and 277 strikeouts in 250 innings. He's been in the Dodgers' organization since 2017.

Additionally, the Dodgers recalled righty Gus Varland while designating pitcher Dinelson Lamet for assignment. Lamet, 31, appeared in three games for Los Angeles this season, giving up an earned run over 4 innings pitched, including an 1 innings in Friday's loss to the Cubs.

"Dinelson did a great job for us," manager Dave Roberts said Saturday. "We just needed the length. He was grateful for the opportunity. Hopefully we can see him again."

Varland, 28, is making his second stint with the club after breaking spring training with the club for the Seoul series in Korea. He made one appearance, retiring the lone batter he faced. He is in his second major league season and has a 6.53 ERA in 17 games with a 1-1 record.
