Traffic gripes: Does rush hour in Los Angeles ever end?
Rush hour will usually last longer than just an hour. Some commuters say it always feels like rush hour in Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Rush hour will usually last longer than just an hour. Some commuters say it always feels like rush hour in Los Angeles.

Juan Matute with the UCLA Lewis Center for Regional Policy Studies says the length of rush "hour" has been increasing over time in cities like Los Angeles, where "there's a lot of demand for travel relative to the roadway space that we have."

"In Los Angeles, we actually have fewer lane miles per person than any other city except Honolulu," Matute said.

With so few roads spanning such a huge region, it's no surprise the system can't support moving a lot of people at the same time.
