The crystal, called a "zircon", was found in Perth, Australia in 2011.
At roughly 400 micrometers long, the crystal is microscopic or about the size of four human hairs.
Scientists say the crystal is red, but turns blue when bombarded by electrons. The crystal also suggests the Earth cooled faster than previously thought and could have contained water.
