Study: Car seats safer in center

May 12, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
It's not enough just to have a car seat, you have to know where to put it. We all know the front seat is off limits. But placing a car seat on the side seat in the back is not as good as positioning it in the middle.

In a study of car crash data, researchers found kids under three were 43 percent less likely to be injured when their seat was fastened in the center back seat rather than on the sides.

While the center seat is the least popular among parents, researchers write it's the best place to protect children from side crashes.
