Toledo apartments see increase in break-ins

TOLEDO, OH

At the Country Club apartments on Dorr Street, management put letters on residents' doors warning of increased apartment and car break-ins. Police say it's not just happening at Country Club, it's happening all over town. They say the problem is people leaving valuables in plain view.

Community Service Officer Dana Slay says, "From the street, I can see into your home. I can see you on your Lazy Boy watching your flat-screen TV. I can see your purse sitting on the kitchen table. I can see everything that you have in your home."

In vehicles, people are leaving things like mp3 players, GPS units, and change in plain view. Authorities suggest just putting those things away, and closing the curtains or blinds at home.
