There are plenty of swimsuits that promise slimming results. Consumer Reports ShopSmart recruited a few brave women to try out more than a dozen slimming suits.
Consumer Reports ShopSmart got a fit professional to come in with her tape measure and her experienced eye to check out the women in the suits and see whether the suits met their claims.
One type of slimming suit didn't work. It's the tankini, and well, it tanked, creating unflattering lines and bulges.
However, ShopSmart found that the $132 Victoria's Secret Firm Control Crisscross Shaping One-piece trimmed all over.
Even better was the $142 Tommy Bahama Cat Island Shirred Bandeau One-Piece that promises a "flattering fit for any figure." The tummy-control panel delivered!
ShopSmart also liked the Spanx Woven Halter One-Piece, $198. The waist detail instantly slims. With that suit you don't feel as though you have to suck in your stomach.
Even better was a less-expensive suit that can take one and half inches off your waist. It's the Lands' End All-over Control Slender Grecian Swimdress, $109.
Not every suit looks good on every person. So depending on your problem area or how the suit happens to fit, ShopSmart advises always trying on the suit before you buy it.
