New numbers from the LAPD show a 25% drop in officer-involved shootings last year.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- New numbers from the LAPD show a 25% decrease in officer-involved shootings in 2018.

An end-of-year review found there were 33 officer-involved shootings last year, down from 44 in 2017.

The report also found a 56% decrease in cases of officers discharging their weapons and a 49% decrease in the number of rounds fired.

LAPD Chief Michel Moore credited new policies involving de-escalation techniques as a top reason for the decrease in deadly encounters.
