Sloane Briles, 35, is charged with child abuse and endangerment.
Investigators say an argument between him and his girlfriend on a tour boat last month upset his 7-year-old son.
Passengers say Briles threw the boy overboard because he wouldn't stop crying.
The boy was rescued.
If convicted, Briles faces up to six years in prison.
