The man, whose identity was not released, had climbed about 60 feet up a tree on Wilma Place near Willow Street shortly before 3 a.m.
Firefighters used a basket attached to a fire truck ladder to bring him back down to safety.
Paramedics evaluated the man at the scene before Long Beach police took him into custody.
It remained unclear why he climbed up the tree in the first place.
